On September 21, 2019, Pro-Tow responded to an emergency dispatch from the Snoqualmie Police Department about a tractor-trailer that had nearly overturned after going onto the planter of a roundabout. We responded quickly to the incident, arriving with our heavy-duty emergency response personnel and equipment.

Once we arrived at the semi-truck accident, our team assessed the scene and began coordinating with all emergency management personnel to safely return the semi-trailer to the road. With the back end of the semi-trailer perched on the planter, our Pro-Tow team used our overhead crane lift to safely complete the semi-truck accident recovery. We brought the semi-trailer back to the road and did so without any additional damage. Once settled, the semi-trailer was able to continue on its way.

Truck Aprons At Roundabouts

Navigating a roundabout in any car, requires drivers to be aware, drive slowly and respect the right of way. Typically, roundabouts are designed with curves that force drivers to drive slowly anyhow. However, trying to traverse the same narrow roadway in a large semi-truck is even more complicated.

The larger the vehicle, the more accommodation needs to be considered. That’s where a roundabout truck apron comes in handy. Truck aprons are what allow larger trucks to safely navigate the turns of a roundabout. In a roundabout, the truck apron is located between the road and the inner circle of the roundabout, such as around the planter. They are designed to support the weight of larger trucks and provide a little extra road room to safely make the turns.

There is a disadvantage to truck aprons though, specifically if they are slightly raised. A top-heavy semi-trailer that needs to rely on the aprons to make a turn, may find itself tilted slightly. This can make the truck unstable and it could lead to an accident. As always though, Pro-Tow is always ready to help no matter what the situation may be.

In this incident on August 16, 2019, Pro-Tow responded to a recovery of a Bobcat S450 that had accidentally rolled over, after deciding it was time for a nap. Moving machinery like this typically requires a heavy-duty or semi-truck tow service. Luckily, the Bobcat rolled without any damage and Pro-Tow quickly straightened it up. Once recovered, the Bobcat carried on with its afternoon work without further incident.

Bobcat Safety First And Always

When you operate a Bobcat, it’s important to keep all safety procedures in mind both before and during operation. Before you start, make sure to do a pre-use inspection to check that everything is in working order. If not, repair what’s broken first. Skid steer loaders, such as the Bobcat S450 in this incident, should also be equipped with a cab and rollover protective structure. This is what will protect the driver in the event a rollover does happen, and reduce the need for a semi-truck tow service. And don’t forget your seatbelt!

How To Avoid Rollovers With A Bobcat

Bobcats are most at risk of a rollover when working on soft or steep ground or when the skid steer loader has become unstable or out of balance. Getting stuck is stressful in any vehicle. Getting a semi-truck stuck in the mud can be very stressful, but not when you have Pro-Tow to come to the rescue! We see a lot of stuck trucks in this business, and many are much worse than this, and every one of them requires heavy-duty towing to get them back on the road and back on the clock.

In this case, the semi-truck got stuck in the deep grass and spinning tires in the mud. The driver took a tight turn and came off the road just enough to get into this predicament. They needed heavy-duty towing as soon as possible.

Team Pro-Tow decided to use our top-of-the-line Century Rotator to get this truck unstuck. A tow truck equipped with this rotator was the best choice because it could carefully and safely get this truck out, without damaging either the truck or slightly twisted trailer. After making a plan for recovery, we were able to remove the truck from its muddy prison and get it back on its route.

Mud: A Truck Driver’s Worst Nightmare

For a logistics company, getting a truck stuck in the mud means a lot of stress for the driver, unpaid labor and in cases like this, a heavy-duty towing call-out. This truck was stuck on a road accident, but mud in unexpected places, like a lot or even highway pullout, can make life difficult for a truck driver.

Not every lot or pullout is smooth and paved, unfortunately. Many are gravel or dirt, and after a heavy rain, they cause problems for 18-wheelers. So, what can you do? 90lbs of Wood Debris Spills in a Semi-Truck Accident in Kirkland, WA

Our Pro-Enviro division responds to the scene when there is diesel fuel, oil or other vehicle fluids spilled after a semi-truck accident. They weren’t needed in this case. This semi-truck end dump truck lost over 90lbs of wood debris, which thankfully, is completely biodegradable.

The end dump truck flipped onto its side during rush hour traffic on Interstate 405, north of Bellevue in Kirkland, WA. They required a prompt semi-truck tow service to get the truck back on its wheels and moved, so traffic could start flowing again. Our team provided this service, developing a recovery plan upon arriving at the semi-truck accident and executing it safely and effectively.

What is an End Dump Truck?

Almost all dump trucks use a hydraulic system to lift the bed used to transport material, but these systems come in various configurations. The most common dump truck will have an open-boxed bed that is in the rear of the truck. This box is lifted by hydraulic rams at the front, thus dumping the material out of the back of it.

An end dump truck also called a semi-trailer end dump truck, has the hydraulic dump system on a trailer that is pulled by the tractor. The dumping system is not attached to the truck itself. In the US, most end dump trucks have a 2-axle trailer with dual tires that is pulled by a 3-axle semi-tractor. The beds on these trailer end dumps are massive. They are used when more debris or material needs to be moved than a regular dump truck could carry.

The disadvantage? They’re unstable when raised in the dumping position. If the ground isn’t level, you typically couldn’t or shouldn’t use a semi-trailer end dump truck for the job. It could result in a semi-truck accident. Because this type of truck is larger and its operating parts more complex, they require a specialized semi-truck tow service to get them upright again if flipped. #teamprotow called on to clear a semi-truck accident in Auburn, WA after it overturns during the afternoon commute snarling traffic. The truck was carrying a full load of steel and weighed more than 70,000lbs, and complicating the recovery was diesel and other motor vehicle fluids that needed to be quickly cleaned to prevent runoff to the nearby storm water collection sites. WSDOT, WSP, and Valley Regional Fire were on scene to assist with coordination in what WSDOT termed a Major Incident Tow and activating an enhanced quick clearance protocol. Fortunately, nobody was seriously hurt and the recovery was quickly cleared and the motor vehicle fluid spill was cleaned preventing other mitigation requirements.

#teamprotow called on to open I-90 after a semi-truck loses its fully loaded trailer nearly tumbling town the embankment. Saved by the jersey barrier, and a stroke of luck the load of paper rolls overturned but everyone was safe. The tractor towing the trailer lost the 5th wheel hitch it uses to connect to the trailer and they became separated. #teamprotow was called on to safely and quickly open all lanes with minimal closure time during an evening traffic period. Utilizing a heavy duty rotating crane style wrecker and a heavy duty wrecker #teamprotow was able to prevent any further loss of load.
