Why You Should Not Attempt a DIY Tow

Why You Should Not Attempt a DIY Tow

Have you ever considered a DIY tow if your car has broken down? Or even just a brief tow to move your fleet vehicle across the yard? Although it may seem like a cheap and easy solution, it’s not worth the risk it brings. Self-towing invites the risk of causing more damage and higher costs for repairs than calling a 24-hour towing company.

DIY Towing is Unsafe

DIY towing brings the risk of causing damage to car components to even the potential of causing an accident. It can also bring personal risk by causing bodily strain or injury. When your car needs a tow, it’s best to leave it to a 24-hour towing company with the operators and equipment to help. They’ll be able to provide the assistance required to keep you and your car safe without causing further damage.

Professionals Can Handle Any Scenario

An emergency towing company is equipped to handle any situation. They can ensure safety in any emergency situation with the right equipment and knowledge. Hiring a reputable company like Pro-Tow can make all the difference in a stressful situation. Most importantly, you will have peace of mind knowing your car or fleet vehicle is in the right hands. Pro-Tow is also a company you can rely on time and again for emergency towing and heavy fleet services.

It’s More Cost-Effective

While DIY may seem like a cost-effective way to save money, it’s not worth the overall risk. While hiring a company may seem like a higher cost, it saves more in the long run. A 24-hour towing company like Pro-Tow will tow your car without causing any more damage. They can also handle any repairs after towing, which will pay off in the long run with a vehicle that won’t break down.

When you need an emergency towing company, trust Pro-Tow to help.

The Difference Between Light-Duty Towing and Heavy-Duty Towing

The Difference Between Light-Duty Towing and Heavy-Duty Towing

When your commercial breaks down and you need support, calling a tow-truck is likely the first response. But it’s not just any tow truck that will show up to help with your emergency towing. There is a difference between a light-duty and heavy-duty tow truck. As the two perform different functions, it’s valuable to understand those differences.

What is Light-Duty Towing?

This type of towing typically handles vehicles that weigh less than 10,000 pounds. Vehicles include sedans, pickup trucks, and motorcycles, for example. When helping with light-duty towing, the vehicle is loaded onto a flatbed truck and secured before being towed. Light-duty tows are also often used for short distances and small vehicles. The trucks themselves are also smaller than their heavy-duty counterparts, making them much more maneuverable in tight spaces or sharp turns. It’ll also cost less when the incident requires a light-duty truck.

What is Heavy-Duty Towing?

As its name suggests, a heavy-duty tow truck is there for heavy vehicles. It also requires special equipment and training to drive, so not every tow truck driver can drive a heavy-duty truck. Typical vehicles that need this type of service include semi-trucks, buses, and construction equipment. Unlike a light tow truck, these tow trucks can carry more than 26,000 pounds of weight.

However, that extra load capacity means they can’t navigate tight spaces or make sharp turns easily. Because of the training needed for heavy-duty emergency towing, the cost also tends to be higher. A heavy-duty tow truck is the best choice if you need towing over long distances, such as from one state to another.

Which One is Right?

Choosing between the two towing options comes down to a matter of weight, distance, and the type of vehicle. If you aren’t sure about the best option, don’t worry. Our trusty Team-Pro has a team of experienced and reliable professionals who can help. We have trained personnel to handle both light and heavy-duty towing and can help with any breakdown or accident.

Accident Recovery: What Goes Down, Must Come Up

Accident Recovery: What Goes Down, Must Come Up

After an incident on May 25, 2022, Team Pro-Tow was on hand to aid in an accident involving a minivan and a dump truck. It was an unfortunate situation that left both vehicles with significant damage. Pro-Tow responded to this accident recovery to rescue these vehicles.

Maybe you’ve heard the saying before, what comes up must go down. But, in this case, the scenario was the opposite. The dump truck in this accident flew over a metal guardrail and landed about 150 feet down into a steep embankment. So, we needed to bring it back up the roadway 150 feet.

We used our trusted and skilled Team Pro-Tow operators to build a recovery plan for this dump truck recovery. Our operators rigged up the dump truck in the ditch with careful effort. We did this to pull the dump truck on the road, removing it from the scene of the accident.

Heavy Truck Accident Recovery

When it comes to heavy-duty towing, like dump truck recovery, Pro-Tow is here to help! Our operators provide 24/7 emergency service for trucks class 7 and up. We have the equipment to recover heavy-duty trucks and vehicles of any weight.

Additionally, Pro-Tow employs two of the only four TRAA Level 5 Nationally Certified Heavy Recovery Specialists in Washington State. In other words, our operators have the knowledge and certifications you need most in heavy-duty accident recovery.

Submarined Car Needs Crane Lift

Submarined Car Needs Crane Lift

In this incident, on December 3rd, 2021, Team Pro-Tow was called in to help with a car that had gone into a retention pond in Maple Valley, WA. The dispatch came from the King County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO), and the vehicle was completely submerged! We responded with an HD Crane Style Rotating Wrecker per KCSO’s request. This submarined car needed an emergency towing service!

Once we arrived, our team did a scene assessment to decide the best approach for the crane lift recovery. We agreed that moving the vehicle closer first would make the rescue safer. So, we coordinated with KCSO divers and got to work.

Underwater Emergency Towing Service

First, the KCSO divers went into the water to rig the vehicle. Then, we brought the car closer to the shore to continue the rescue and crane lift process. Once it was at the shoreline, we used the LD vehicle rigging kit to lift the vehicle out of the water. We continued lifting it, using the chance to drain as much water as possible. After the car drained, we dispatched a flatbed to transport the vehicle.

Crane Lift Finale

Meanwhile, as per KCSO’s request, we set the vehicle on the shore. Pro-Tow then removed all rigging, inspected it, and returned to its original location.

We waited until the flatbed arrived and then helped with loading the car onto it. We secured it with a four-point tie down to safely transport it back to the Auburn yard. Once it was there, we unloaded the vehicle in our Portable Parking Stall Containment Pond. Doing so ensures no hazardous fluid leaks out of the vehicle and into the ground.

Our team then reconditioned the equipment by cleaning and inspecting the straps used in the tie-down. Once we finished the paperwork, we gave the all-clear on this emergency towing service.

In addition, we offer in-house services to keep your fleet running at top quality through our Motorplex division. We can help with various services to keep your fleet running at its best. Learn more about our divisions at www.pro-tow.com.

Water Recovery: Stolen Hemi Drives into Puget Sound

Water Recovery: Stolen Hemi Drives into Puget Sound

In this incident, on December 5, 2021, a vehicle was stolen and driven into the water near Seattle in Puget sound. Team Pro-Tow responded to a call from Tide Management Seattle PD to help with the water recovery. We gathered the necessary equipment and set out for the scene.

Once we arrived at the water, our team did a scene assessment to decide the best way to handle the emergency towing. Then, it was time to get to work.

Water Recovery of the Stuck Car

We started by positioning our equipment for a hook-up, then used a light-style rigging kit and spreader bar. We then hooked it up to the unit, lifted the vehicle, and loaded it onto the flatbed. Our team then unhooked it and returned the equipment and rotator to their driving condition. Finally, we returned to the storage unit, completed the paperwork and gave the all-clear call.

Local Teamwork for Emergency Towing

While we are fully prepared to handle any situation, we partner up as needed. Depending on the case, we work may alongside government agencies and local authorities for accident recoveries or emergency towing, as in this situation.

Working together ensures every party has the correct information and can move forward on the recovery together with a solid plan. In some incidents, a government agency or local authority may have extra information that we wouldn’t otherwise have. In this case, we had the schedule of the tide waters, so we could safely rescue the vehicle and make a water recovery without risk.

Working with local authorities and organizations is also extra important to protect the environment. For example, a nearby storm drain at risk of contamination or a vehicle in the water needs to be dealt with quickly. The unnecessary pollution can quickly cause damage to the environment and local wildlife and pollute drinking water.

Pro-Tow is proud to work and collaborate with other knowledgeable and experienced organizations to get the job done!
