Accident Recovery for a Crashed Mercedes in Issaquah

In this incident, on January 10, 2022, Team Pro-Tow responded to a call to fish a Mercedes SUV out of a steep embankment. The vehicle had flown over the concrete guardrail on I-90 in Issaquah, WA, prior and required accident recovery.

Crane Lift Recovery

At the scene, we saw the vehicle deep in the embankment, stuck in trees and mud. The SUV was severely damaged. Due to the steepness of the bank, we had to make a careful accident recovery plan to fish it out and get it back on the roadway.

First, our team of experienced operators rigged up the vehicle. It required rigging at the front end, and we ran the straps through the two back windows to stabilize the lift. Then, the operator slowly lifted the vehicle out of the ditch, over the cement guardrail, and back on the road.

With the crane lift recovery complete, we could tow the casualty away. Unfortunately, this Issaquah accident left some debris in the ditch. So, we got to work cleaning it up and restoring the site of the accident.

Wanted to Be Free: Mobile Trailer Recovery

In this incident, on January 12, 2022, Team Pro-Tow was called in to help with a tipped-over worksite trailer. While on route, the trailer disconnected from the tractor and semi-truck pulling it and then tipped over on the road in Spokane.

Avoid Needing Accident Recovery

Upon arrival, we hooked up the worksite trailer and uprighted it. It’s always important to double-check that your trailer or load is properly hitched. It’s too easy for a trailer to slip free, leading to severe accidents or unwanted delays. While loading up the trailer, ensure the hitch size matches the coupler and that all hitch components are tight before you couple the trailer to the tow vehicle. After your trip, always do a post-trip inspection to ensure you don’t need accident recovery services while on the road.

Silverado in Sumner Accident Recovery

On December 16, 2020, Team Pro-Tow responded to an unfortunate accident in Sumner, WA. A Silverado pickup truck went off the road and landed in the ditch. The ditch was down a steep embankment, requiring a complex accident recovery.

Pickup Truck Accident Recovery

Our skilled and trained team arrived at the scene with the necessary equipment to perform a successful accident recovery. First, we rigged up the damaged pickup truck and prepared to lift it out of the ditch with our rotator. Then, our experienced operators carefully lifted the truck out of the ditch and back on the road.

Finally, we loaded the pickup onto a flatbed trailer so we could remove the casualty from the scene. After we cleared the area, traffic could flow freely once again.

What is Crane-Style Wrecker?

Sometimes people ask us if our vehicles are tow trucks or cranes? When we arrive at the scene to do some heavy lifting, we come with a crane-style wrecker called a rotator. Officially, rotators are not classified as a crane.

Rotators are essentially big cranes mounted on the deck of the truck. It can be used for lifting heavy machinery, flipped over semi-trucks, and trucks like the one mentioned in this incident. We use these vehicles for crane lift services.

Equipment Recovery: Untipping a Tipped Excavator

On March 23, 2021, a brand new excavator hit a bridge, rolled over, and required heavy equipment recovery. Team Pro-Tow used our heavy-duty crane-style wrecker to lift the excavator back on solid ground.

Our skilled operators are trained in a range of rigging techniques to properly perform a crane lift on equipment and objects of all shapes, sizes, and weights. Fortunately, we lifted this excavator without causing further damage to the machine.

How To Prevent an Excavator from Tipping

Operator error and lack of planning is the leading cause of tipping excavators and needing heavy equipment recovery. You should always ensure it’s on solid, flat, and dry ground when operating. Check manufacturer guidelines for safe operating ratios if you must work on a slope. Even if you know your machine, a stump or rock could cause it to lose footing and slide. Likewise, if the edge of the excavator catches a point or base of a slope, it probably will tip over.

When driving, pay attention to the direction of travel. Most excavators allow the cab to rotate 360 degrees, but the tracks always go in the same direction regardless of how the driver is facing. It would be best if the operator is always facing forward. Otherwise, you might move the machine in the wrong direction and get the equipment in a precarious position.

Never overload the excavator when lifting, primarily if operating a mini excavator. Always read the manufacturer’s manual for lifting specifications.

Crane Services Lift in the Heartland

Crane Lift Service for Camper at the Ritz

In this incident on July 21, 2021, team Pro-Tow received an emergency dispatch from Washington State Patrol for an overturned camper trailer and full-size Dodge pick-up. The RV accident was near Ritzville, WA.

The collision was blocking the interstate, so we contacted a WSP Trooper at the scene to receive more information. We arrived on-site with a Heavy-Duty Rotating Crane Style Wrecker, Medium Duty Wrecker, and a Specialty Landoll Flatbed Semi-Trailer. After a scene evaluation and discussion with the command post, we got to work on this accident recovery and crane lift service.

Challenging Trailer Recovery

We found that the truck and camper trailer had overturned, slid, and then spun to face oncoming traffic. The damage was significant and required special safety precautions to avoid dismantling the camper. While dismantling was possible, that would take more time, equipment, and personnel for this accident recovery.

So instead, we performed calculations and created an alternate but still safe recovery plan. We also set up the equipment to minimize lane closure, so the traffic could still flow safely. Then, using specialty recovery straps, rigging, and high-pressure airbags, Team Pro-Tow performed an overhead crane lift service and load. Next, we performed non-routine strapping and tie-downs for safe transport to the storage yard and finish the trailer recovery.

Accident Recovery Complete

We performed an overhead crane lift service at the storage yard and placed the casualty into storage. The owner was able to retrieve any personal belongings from the unit as needed. We then returned all supplies and equipment to their original location and condition. Once we finished all the required paperwork, our team cleared the call.
