Heavy Truck Winter Driving Tips

Heavy Truck Winter Driving Tips

In this incident, which happened on February 23, 2022, a propane truck slid off the road during a severe winter storm. Team Pro-Tow responded to help with the heavy truck towing rescue. We prepared the necessary equipment and then set out.

Recovering the Off-Road Propane Truck

Our team worked quickly and efficiently in the chilly winter air to rescue the propane truck. We used our heavy-duty crane to secure the truck and move it back onto the road. Fortunately, this incident was not on the main roadway and didn’t cause an accident or disrupt traffic.

Winter is approaching, meaning another year of winter driving conditions is just around the corner. With that in mind, we’ve put together some heavy truck winter driving tips.

Heads Up: Heavy Truck Winter Driving Tips

Before even getting on the road, do a pre-trip inspection. Doing so helps catch any issues before they can develop and cause an accident. While inspecting, take the chance to clean off any snow and ice, especially from the roof, lights, and windows. Snow in those areas can diminish your visibility.

Driver a Little Slower

Even on straight stretches of road, don’t drive at full speed. Black ice or hidden dangers can cause accidents before you realize the poor conditions. In addition, it’s important to drive slowly and carefully when going around corners, as they are common areas for slipping off the road.

Even if you’re just moving around a loading or storage yard, heavy snow, slushy, wet, and icy conditions can cause your vehicle to slide off the road. Then, you’ll need heavy truck towing like the propane truck in this report!

Brake and Accelerate Slowly

Avoid suddenly starting or stopping when driving on winter roads or in icy or rainy weather. Sudden stops can cause the tires to slip and lead to an accident. Instead, if you have to stop suddenly and can’t gear down, try lightly pumping the brakes, which helps reduce locking the tires. Likewise, when accelerating, don’t push down aggressively on the accelerator. On slippery roads, you’ll only have your tires slip out. You don’t want your trailer to slide and cause a severe accident.

Remember, winter road safety is always first and foremost. But, unfortunately, we know that you cannot avoid all accidents. So, if you need heavy truck towing, Team Pro-Tow is here to help!

Feed Truck in the Ditch Needs Heavy Duty Towing

Feed Truck in the Ditch Needs Heavy Duty Towing

In this incident on January 11, 2022, a feed truck with a trailer took a turn too tightly, and its trailer ended up slipping into the muddy ditch and became stuck. In need of a heavy-duty towing rescue, Team Pro-Tow responded to the call for help.

We gathered the necessary equipment for the rescue and then set out for the scene.

Set Out for Semi-Truck Towing

Once we arrived at the scene, we started with an assessment to plan the best way to rescue the trailer. Then, using our specialized heavy duty towing equipment, we settled on the way to lift it out. Finally, we secured the trailer and lifted it to place it back on the road. Once we got it back on solid ground, the truck and trailer continued on their way.

In any condition, but especially during wet conditions, it’s essential to take wider corners. Doing so provides enough room to safely get around the corners without getting into an accident or slipping into any ditches. Sometimes all it takes is one tire off the pavement to suck the trailer into the ditch!

When You Need Heavy Duty-Towing

In incidents like these where drivers are in trouble, Pro-Tow is always ready to help. We offer 24-hour emergency semi-truck towing services and have the equipment to deal with any towing situation. We have 50-ton mobile cranes, every size of tow truck and flatbed, and our team is fully certified and experienced. No matter the trouble, we can solve any problem with professionalism and speed so you can get back on the road quickly.

In this incident, we could quickly get the semi-truck and driver back on the road. There wasn’t heavy damage, and they could carry on with their task. In other incidents, we can bring the vehicle back to our storage yard when it is heavily damaged. We can also provide on-site repairs as needed.

Semi-Truck Recovery: Ditched Load of Potatoes on Tiger Mountain

Semi-Truck Recovery: Ditched Load of Potatoes on Tiger Mountain

In this incident, on March 8, 2022, a semi-truck and trailer went into the ditch at a curve and needed semi-truck recovery. The accident caused the truck and trailer to tip against the embankment. The trailer also carried a full load of potatoes, so the vehicle and the cargo trailer needed an emergency tow to get back onto the road.

Team Pro-Tow came to the rescue! We selected the necessary equipment and then set out for the recovery at Tiger Mountain.

Semi-Truck Recovery

Once we arrived at the scene, we started with an assessment to decide the best way to rescue the tipped semi-truck and trailer. Unfortunately, the trailer was flat on its side, lying on the embankment on the side of the road.

We decided to use the two wreckers to lift out the vehicle. We carefully hooked up one wrecker to the front of the semi-truck and a second wrecker on the back trailer. Working with care and patience, we slowly lifted the unit and got it back on the road with all the wheels touching down. With the semi-truck lifting handled, we gave the semi-truck and trailer a once over and cleared it to continue on its way along Tiger Mountain.

Semi-Truck Lifting

Team Pro-Tow has the equipment to handle any recovery or accident. Before setting out to the scene, we always ensure we bring the right equipment. Once we arrive, we do a scene assessment to decide the best way to handle the semi-truck recovery and whether additional equipment or help is needed.

Safety is our top priority. That includes the safety of our team, other drivers, and those involved in the incident. That’s why we are careful with our recovery plans and take the time to execute a thorough, detailed, and safe recovery. We always get a job done – and do it the right way.

Car Hauler Needs Heavy Truck Accident Recovery

Car Hauler Needs Heavy Truck Accident Recovery

In this incident, on January 10, 2022, a sizeable semi-car hauler carrying a load of vehicles had a severe collision with a passenger vehicle. Team Pro-Tow received the call to help with the heavy truck accident recovery. We selected the necessary equipment for the heavy truck towing and headed out to the scene.

Car Hauler Accident Recovery

Once there, we did a scene assessment before starting the recovery work. A fully loaded tractor-trailer can weigh around 80,000 pounds when fully loaded. In addition, the hauler was carrying a full load of vehicles, which meant that Pro-Tow needed to use our heavy-duty equipment for the job.

Our mobile crane service can lift up to 50 tons of weight, so even a fully loaded car carrier is no problem. In addition to the 50-ton mobile cranes, we have every size of tow truck, flatbed, and certified staff to provide professional solutions to every problem. Thanks to our specialized equipment, our Team Pro-Tow can get nearly any sized vehicle out of a bad situation.

In this incident, we worked safely and efficiently to recover the car hauler and assisted with this heavy truck accident recovery in any way we could.

24-Hour Emergency Towing

In addition to mobile crane services, we offer out-of-area transport, 21-hour on-site service and roadside repair. Heavy Truck Towing for When You’re Stuck in the Mud

Heavy Truck Towing for When You’re Stuck in the Mud

In this incident, on January 11, 2022, a truck and trailer were driving along and took a too narrow turn that ended up with its trailer wheels trapped in the muddy ditch at a dairy farm. Luckily, Team Pro-Team was there to save the day and help the trapped truck get free.

Heavy Truck Towing for the Stuck Truck

Team Pro-Tow arrived on the scene promptly prepared for some heavy-truck towing. The truck in the mud was about 80,000 pounds, so it took some muscle to get it out of the ditch! We set up the rigging around the stuck truck, carefully pulled it free, and set it back onto the road.

The good news for the truck driver is that our Team Pro-Tow offers 24-hour emergency towing services, including heavy truck towing. So even in cases like these, where it’s not a major accident, our team is always ready and able to help.

Avoid Needing Semi-Truck Towing

While we can always help with a stuck truck and trailer, the best practice is to avoid the problem altogether. Still, it can be a problem at loading lots, especially during the warmer months that bring rain and muddy conditions.

The first step is to walk around your truck to check the ground in front and behind your rig. If you aren’t sure how stable or soft the ground is, it’s best to avoid driving or parking on it. Being extra careful, and taking time to inspect the ground, can help you avoid the cost of semi-truck towing.

This rule also applies in the winter. After parking your truck, wait 10-15 minutes, then move the truck forward or backwards. As your tires cool down, it can melt the snow beneath the tires. When that snow refreezes, it turns icy and can make your truck stuck. Moving off the melted patch will save you from getting stuck during a roadside break or while loading your cargo.

If you need emergency towing, Team Pro-Tow is always just a call away!

Semi-Truck Towing for Tipper on 18

Semi-Truck Towing for Tipper on 18

On May 28, 2021, we responded to a call for a semi-truck and trailer in a ditch eastbound on Highway 18, west of the i-90 near Snoqualmie, Washington. Unfortunately, the truck was in a collision and ended up off the road. It can be impossible to get out without heavy truck towing services in situations like these.

Pick and Pass Recovery

When we arrived at the scene, we saw that the entire passenger side of the semi-truck was in the ditch, and the trailer was leaning heavily away from the roadway. Team Pro-Tow decided that a Pick and Pass play would be the best semi-truck recovery strategy.

We placed the HD Rotating Crane Style Wreck at the rear of the truck and trailer. Our team planned to pick up the back end of the trailer and swing it over onto the road. We also put an HD C Class Wrecker at the front of the truck to pull it out of the ditch. Before starting the semi-truck towing, we removed the bumper to prevent further damage.

Rigged Up for Semi-Truck Towing

An integral part of every recovery is proper planning and securing the rigging. Team Pro-Tow used factory front bumper hooks to lift the truck’s front out of the ditch. We also had a red endless loop strap in a bridal configuration.

Then, we used rim slings on the rear wheels of the trailer and blue endless loop straps in a basket configuration. Altogether, we rigged four lines to the trailer load. We carefully inspected all the rigging to ensure it was ready for a heavy truck towing service.

Truck and Trailer Back on the Road

The winches were engaged to begin the semi-truck recovery very slowly and carefully. Simultaneously, we pulled the truck out of the ditch and lifted the trailer back on the road. This recovery was successful, and we got that casualty back on the roadway in one piece!

Unfortunately, the truck wouldn’t start due to low fuel tanks. The driver’s side fuel tank had gone into the passenger side’s tank due to the lean. This customer needed heavy truck towing services. We took it to our secured yard and performed a requested load shift service.

Another successful recovery and cleared call by Team Pro-Tow!
