In this emergency dispatch, on May 29th, 2020, we were called in to help with an overturned heavy-duty truck and trailer. The trailer was carrying a wood chipper. The combination was also leaking fluids, so Team ProEnviro also came to help with this equipment recovery. Our team contacted the deputy at the scene and got limited photos of the casualty. We sent a heavy-duty rotating crane-style wrecker, motor vehicle spill response vehicle, flatbed recovery tow truck and an emergency response Hazwoper.

Equipment Recovery

We arrived at the scene and spoke with the incident command then the vehicle owner to get permission for the equipment recovery. First, we temporarily placed spill containments for the leaking hydraulic fluid. Then we set up the rotator and flatbed recovery truck parallel to the casualty (due to limited road access) and finally set up the crane lift services. Our team installed special straps and frame chains to the truck and trailer so our team could lift the unit underneath some overhead power lines.

Crane Lift Services

As soon as the unit was safely under the powerlines, we installed rigging for a safe catch and uprighting. We worked slowly and carefully with the crane lift services until the unit was safely upright on the roadway. We then temporarily stored our rigging and prepared to secure the truck for towing. Next, we separated the trailer, loaded it onto the flatbed tow truck, and secured it. Meanwhile, our Pro-Enviro team continued handling the spill cleanup and recovery of any debris and contamination.

We returned in the morning to inspect the site and ended up doing considerable small debris cleanup and collecting some additional soil samples. Our team transported the debris and waste to the manifest site and sent the soil samples to the laboratory. We completed the necessary paperwork and waited to see what the soil sample results would be.
