On September 18, 2019 this semi-truck and trailer jackknifed on Federal Way, Washington. It slammed through heavy jersey barriers, which caused a rupture in the fuel tanks. Keeping Motor Vehicle Fuel Out Of Storm Drains

One of the biggest concerns during a semi-truck spill recovery is containing the spill before it can run into a storm drain. If oil or diesel fuel goes into the drain, it can pollute the natural waterways. If you can get the spill before it does that, you can avoid contamination and, in some cases, fines from the local government.

When there is a spill, the owner of the truck or trucking company is responsible for clean up. On August 18, 2019, a semi-truck accident was blocking Exit 53 on Westbound I-90. The truck was severely damaged, and the busy Snoqualmie Pass needed to be opened as quickly as possible. Pro-Tow 24 Hour Towing was called to assist with semi-truck accident recovery.

We worked directly with the Washington State Department of Transportation and Washington State Patrol. Team Pro-Tow was able to bring the semi-truck back to the roadway for safe transport.

On August 6, 2019, Pro-Tow responded to a dispatched call regarding a semi-truck accident on busy Highway 169 near Maple Valley, WA. A commercial box truck had gone off the road and lodged into a power pole. We arrived on the scene along with the Washington State Patrol, Maple Valley Fire and Life Safety, and the Washington State Department of Transportation.

After checking in with the other agencies and Incident Command, we got straight to the task of accessing the scene and creating an initial recovery plan. To get this job done, we needed a heavy-duty incident response vehicle with special equipment as well as a medium-duty wrecker.

First, we had to cut off the badly damaged cargo box before any extraction could take place. Then, we had to get clearance from local utilities to ensure continuing with the recovery of this semi-truck accident was safe and not interfering with any of their lines. Finally, we installed a three-point rigging system to lift the vehicle from the power pole and ditch with the crane style wrecker.

Once the truck was out, we hooked it up using extensive safety precautions to transport it to a secure storage yard. Overall, we were able to minimize lane closures and minimize traffic congestion. The debris was all cleared from the accident, and we helped the owner’s agent with cargo and personal items before returning the equipment and closing the call.

90lbs of Wood Debris Spills in a Semi-Truck Accident in Kirkland, WA

Our Pro-Enviro division responds to the scene when there is diesel fuel, oil or other vehicle fluids spilled after a semi-truck accident. They weren’t needed in this case. This semi-truck end dump truck lost over 90lbs of wood debris, which thankfully, is completely biodegradable.

The end dump truck flipped onto its side during rush hour traffic on Interstate 405, north of Bellevue in Kirkland, WA. What is an End Dump Truck?

Almost all dump trucks use a hydraulic system to lift the bed used to transport material, but these systems come in various configurations. The most common dump truck will have an open-boxed bed that is in the rear of the truck. This box is lifted by hydraulic rams at the front, thus dumping the material out of the back of it.

An end dump truck also called a semi-trailer end dump truck, has the hydraulic dump system on a trailer that is pulled by the tractor. The dumping system is not attached to the truck itself. In the US, most end dump trucks have a 2-axle trailer with dual tires that is pulled by a 3-axle semi-tractor. The beds on these trailer end dumps are massive. They are used when more debris or material needs to be moved than a regular dump truck could carry.

The disadvantage? They’re unstable when raised in the dumping position. If the ground isn’t level, you typically couldn’t or shouldn’t use a semi-trailer end dump truck for the job. It could result in a semi-truck accident. #teamprotow called on to clear a semi-truck accident in Auburn, WA after it overturns during the afternoon commute snarling traffic. The truck was carrying a full load of steel and weighed more than 70,000lbs, and complicating the recovery was diesel and other motor vehicle fluids that needed to be quickly cleaned to prevent runoff to the nearby storm water collection sites. WSDOT, WSP, and Valley Regional Fire were on scene to assist with coordination in what WSDOT termed a Major Incident Tow and activating an enhanced quick clearance protocol. Fortunately, nobody was seriously hurt and the recovery was quickly cleared and the motor vehicle fluid spill was cleaned preventing other mitigation requirements.
