Pro-Tow by FleetEasy recently responded to a challenging heavy-duty recovery on Fall City Rd, Fall City, WA, where a tanker truck had gone off the roadway and rolled onto its side. The tanker was damaged, and the recovery needed careful planning. Our priority is always to recover the unit safely while preventing any additional impact to the equipment or the surrounding area.
Because this call involved a full tractor-trailer combination overturned in a ditch, we needed to use a specialized heavy-duty rotator, advanced rigging, and a coordinated response with multiple operators. Here’s how our team got the job done.
Fully Equipped for a Fast Response
Once receiving the dispatch, our operators immediately began staging the necessary equipment, including two heavy-duty crane-style rotators. Unfortunately, traffic on Highway 18 was extremely congested, slowing travel to the site. Still, we got there as quickly as we could, assessed the scene and got to work.
To give you a sense of the conditions and situation, here’s a quote from our operator Brian’s report:
“We got the trucks in the best position for a plan to be made. Then we started rigging the axles to the frame, carefully protecting the truck from further damage. We got everything ready to try to roll it back onto the street. Things went well, and we started moving it forward to get it out of the ditch.”
Pulling off a controlled rollover is one of the most critical parts of any heavy-duty recovery. Any sudden movement, faulty rigging, wrong force or angle, or uneven lift can make an already-damaged unit worse. Our operators used slow, calculated winching to lower stress on the tank body and prevent twisting or tearing.
Executing a Safe Semi-Truck Recovery
Once the tanker was upright, our team gradually pulled it forward to bring it fully out of the ditch. We had to disconnect the tractor from the trailer and move them separately. After the recovery, the tractor was hooked up for semi-truck towing in Maple Valley, while another one of our trucks transported the trailer.
Both the tractor and trailer were towed to Pro-Tow’s secured yard, where our crew rearranged the lot to make room and safely store both units.
