When you think of a typical towing service, you might picture recovering a disabled vehicle from the side of the road. But some jobs require a combination of heavy-duty towing, specialized lifting equipment, cargo handling expertise, and careful logistical planning.
Recently, the Pro-Tow by FleetEasy in Auburn was called to assist with a loaded car hauler that needed to be unloaded before the tractor and trailer could be transported to the customer’s facility in Sumner. The job involved safely removing five vehicles from the carrier, using both a crane rotator and a flatbed tow truck, before delivering the empty tractor and trailer to their final destination.
It’s a great example of how Pro-Tow’s cargo handling and specialized transport services go far beyond traditional towing. And it made for some awesome photos, too!
The Challenge: Unloading a Fully Loaded Car Hauler
Car haulers are designed to maximize vehicle capacity by stacking vehicles on multiple levels of the trailer and tractor. While this configuration is efficient for transport, it can create challenges when vehicles need to be unloaded without access to loading ramps, dealership facilities, or other specialized equipment.
In this case, the carrier was loaded with four vehicles on the upper deck of the trailer and one on the lower deck. Before the tractor and trailer could be moved to the customer’s location, all five vehicles needed to be removed safely and without damage.
Using a Crane Rotator to Remove Upper-Level Vehicles
The four vehicles positioned on the upper deck required a specialized lifting solution. To complete the unloading safely, the Pro-Tow team utilized one of its heavy-duty crane rotators equipped with a spreader bar and light-duty rigging system. The spreader bar allowed lifting forces to be distributed evenly while protecting the vehicles from unnecessary stress during the lift.
One by one, the upper-level vehicles were carefully rigged, lifted from the carrier, and placed safely on the ground. Our experienced operators have an expert knowledge of proper rigging, load balancing and vehicle handling procedures. We prioritize safety and our customers’ assets, and can get jobs done without causing damage to vehicles.

Finishing with a Flatbed Tow Truck & Transport to Sumner
To get the pickup truck off the lower deck, we had to use a flatbed tow truck. We were able to carefully move the truck onto the flatbed truck and clear the car hauler, ready for towing.
The combination of crane-assisted unloading and flatbed transport allowed the team to complete the vehicle removal process smoothly and safely.
With all vehicles removed, the final phase of the project could begin. The now-empty tractor and trailer were prepared for transport and delivered to the customer’s location in Sumner.
