Stuck Slopeside Needing a Tow Truck in Spokane

Written by the Pro-Tow Team
Professional recovery and Towing in Spokane, WA

If your vehicle gets stuck in a weird spot, like up the side of a hill, you’ll need a professional tow truck in Spokane. Depending on the situation, being stuck at a slant, in an embankment, near water or in other sticky spots can cause accidents and injuries.

Recently, Pro-Tow by FleetEasy was dispatched to recover an old 2011 Lincoln that had been abandoned on the side of a hill on private property. After sitting there for too long, the property owner called for a tow truck in Spokane. It wasn’t extremely steep, but the vehicle was positioned at an odd angle and was far enough off the pavement that it needed extra caution from the driver and our towing crew.

Here’s how we got the job done.

Assessing the Scene Before Any Tow Begins

When our operator arrived on scene, the first priority was safety. Due to terrain limitations, the tow truck could only approach within approximately 100 feet of the vehicle. That distance immediately ruled out a straightforward hook-and-pull recovery.

Sidehill recoveries require careful planning. Pulling a vehicle straight downhill without control can cause it to gain speed, rotate unpredictably, or roll. In this case, the vehicle needed to be moved sideways while facing downhill. This maneuver requires precise winch control and an understanding of vehicle dynamics.

For this recovery, two winch cables and two green endless loops were used to create a controlled, balanced pull. This setup allowed the operator to manage both direction and stability throughout the recovery, rather than relying on a single line.

Controlled Movement Saves the Day

One of the most critical aspects of this recovery was controlling the vehicle’s steering while it was being winched. Instead of letting the car slide freely, the winches were used to guide the Lincoln’s movement, keeping it aligned and preventing sudden weight shifts.

The operator put the car in neutral and engaged the parking brake so the vehicle wouldn’t slide uncontrollably downhill.

Successful Recovery and Towing in Spokane

Once the Lincoln was safely brought down the hill and positioned next to the tow truck in Spokane, we had a little work to do before the job was done. During the incident, the rear driver-side tire failed.

Our operator changed the tire on-site and prepared the car for towing. We dollied the car up and towed it off the scene.

Need a Tow? Trust Pro-Tow’s Experience and Reputation

No two recoveries are identical, and if they were, our job would get a little dull. When vehicles are stuck in bad situations, the recovery requires expertise, judgment, patience, and a deep understanding of how vehicles behave under load, and in this case, gravity.

Team Pro-Tow regularly handles complex towing in Spokane, including off-road recoveries, winter slide-offs, and vehicles stuck in precarious positions. We invest in proper equipment and continuous training so we can make smart decisions when conditions are less than ideal.
