Tell-Tale Signs You’ve Run Out of Gas
Knowing whether you’ve run out of gas or not might seem pretty obvious, but that is not always the case! We’ve encountered vehicles with faulty gas gauges that indicated the tank was empty when it was not, and vice versa!
There are tell-tale signs your car is running out of gas.
- Sputtering and losing power. An engine that’s running out of fuel will hesitate and sputter as the fuel supply dwindles.
- Stalling. Sometimes you don’t even get the sputtering as a warning. The engine might stall and shut off completely when the gas is out.
- Fuel gauge is at E. Okay, this is obvious. If your low fuel warning light has been on for some time and your engine sputters and quits, it’s likely out of gas. (Unless your gauge is broken).
- Trouble with power steering and braking. When the engine is out of fuel, it will cut your power steering and brake assist.
- Car won’t start, but accessories work. If your engine will not start, but all your accessories work when you turn the key, it could be a fuel issue and not a charging system issue.
