Pro-Tow by FleetEasy handles many recoveries, and often urgency is required to keep people, vehicles and the environment safe. Recently, we responded to a call about a 35-foot Osh-Kosh motorhome on the edge of a remote road in Whitman County, south of Spokane, WA.
The unit was ready to roll, and when we got the call, the driver was stuck inside. Pro-Tow had to get there as soon as possible.
Arriving at the Scene
We sent two operators and two recovery units to assist with this motorhome recovery. When we arrived, first responders were already on the scene, and the driver was out of the vehicle. The motorhome was literally teetering on the edge of the road and a steep, deep ditch. There was no time to spare.
The fire department told us the motorhome was completely full of garbage and was very unpleasant. They had the vehicle tied off to their rescue truck to prevent it from tipping. They had also placed supportive bars on the ditch-side to help prop it up. It was time to get to work.
Two-Truck Motorhome Recovery
Because the fire truck was beside the motorhome and was preventing it from tipping and couldn’t be moved, we decided to go around to get one of our recovery rigs on the other side.
Our operator hooked up a rim sling to the front wheel and two at the rear connected with a frame chain. At the same time, our second operator was hooking up a sling to the motorhome on the roof. This way, we could have a balanced pull on the front and back of the vehicle, while ensuring the top doesn’t tip over.
When we started pulling, the motorhome popped back onto the road right away and without incident.
Praise for a Job Well Done
After the recovery, Pro-Tow received a message from the Whitman County Fire District. They told us that when they received the call about the tipped motorhome, they were unable to get any other recovery team to respond besides Pro-Tow, because they were an hour and a half south of Spokane.
Pro-Tow went out as soon as possible with two rigs and the equipment required to pull this recovery off quickly and safely. The fire department praised our operators, saying they were very professional, took safety seriously and made sure to do the job in a way that would get the best results.
